  • ABMG’s current executive director, Dr. Karla Matteson, will be retiring at the end of 2009. Click here to view the job description and qualifications.
  • The American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) has recently contacted the ABMG with information regarding their new plans for their certification examination. Based on the needs of their diplomates and their board, ABGC will be moving from a two exam format (general exam and specialty exam) to a yearly all inclusive single exam format. As a result of this change, they will no longer be participating in the ABMG designed general examination. This change will have no impact on ABMG candidates as the grading of the general examination has always been separate for ABGC and ABMG examinees.

The ABMG wishes the ABGC Board of Directors, their diplomates, and candidates the best in this new endeavor and look forward to continued interactions with the ABGC in our activities within the medical genetics profession.

If you would like more information regarding the ABGC’s plan for future certification examinations, please see visit the ABGC website.
  • Program directors be advised, all residents and/or fellows entering a residency and/or fellowship training program beginning July 1, 2008 or later, must apply for certification within five years of completing a genetics residency and/or fellowship training program.
  • ABMG will offer the first subspecialty certification examination in Medical Biochemical Genetics in 2009.  Applications are now available. Click here for more information.
